As I went to bed last night I already knew exactly what I wanted to share this morning. THere was a lingering feeling in my stomach and in my head as I laid down to go to bed last night. So today and tomorrow I will share those 2 things that were in my gut.
First of all I want to warn you of your dealings today. The great theologian Linus once said, "There are 3 things I have learned not to talk about in public, CHarlie Brown. Those 3 things are politics, religion and the great pumpkin." My advice would be to lean toward teh Great Pumpkin talk today. Anything that is said politically or religiously today may come out of the wrong motives and not from the heart. So just that little side note for today.
Now, Obama has been elected as president of the United States. He's never served the country in any war type situation, never been in the armed forces, never been in this type of power position. He voted every time for abortion and against partial birth abortion resessitation, he also voted against secret ballot vote. He is a man about change alright, changing the very fabric of our country. BUt, he's our president starting in early 2009 and I will respect and follow him for that. Say what?
Let me explain:
Romans 13:1-5 Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves. For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and he will commend you. For he is God's servant to do you good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword for nothing. He is God's servant, an agent of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer. Therefore, it is necessary to submit to the authorities, not only because of possible punishment but also because of conscience.
This set of verses got me through times of doubting why I was where I was. Working under who I was working for. In a past job I stayed and never voiced my distrust or dislike for the way the boss ran things for over 4 years. It is our job as Christians to speak out for our beliefs and our morals as I stated yesterday. But, it is also our job to show our understanding of God by respecting our authorities as hard as it may be sometimes.
So respect your leaders, understand that they only have the power that God has allowed them to gain. THey are there for a reason and God knows that reason, we are not in any position to question it.
Thanks for reading and have a great day!
