Heart

So I think we can all agree that the heart is one of the most important organs in teh body. People have appendix, kidneys, limbs, all types of things removed and go on living, but the heart is where the action is. Your heart makes everything, and keep going. In the ancient days they actually believed that the kidneys were the most important part and they called them the soul. Today, heart surgeons are some of the most loved people in the world, they fix blockages, rebuild veins and arteries and such so that we can live longer lives. They undo so much of the damage that our lack of exercise, poor lifestyles, and bad eating habits create.
Well, the heart is a major part of spiritual life as well. We ask Jesus into our hearts, not our stomachs, brains, kidneys or liver, the heart. Proverbs 4:23 talks about this, "Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life."
Our heart, our feelings of love and desire, dictate to a great extent how we live because we always make time for the things that we enjoy. In this verse Solomon is speaking to us about guarding our hearts. This means we need to make sure we concentrate on the things that we love, that keep us on the path to Christ. We must make sure our affections push us in the right direction, and the only way to do that is to keep our desires in check. Don't chase after everything you see, that you think you may enjoy. Instead, chase after Christ and His desires for you. Then you will see that your heart belongs to Him, and when your heart belongs to Him your desires will also.
Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart. Psalm 37:4, Hmmmmmm, sounds like ole David and Solomon were on the same page on this one. Your desires need to be God's desires for you, this will truly help you guard your heart.
Thanks for reading and have an awesome weekend!
