I was finally able to view the movie 300 last night. A couple of the guys came over with it and I don't want to know how they got it. But anyway, I enjoyed it. How interesting that a few men are willing to die for their earthly leader, and their earthly leader is willing to die for history. He was doing it just to be remembered for his courage and his valor.
There are 5 major marks of being a disciple. A disciple is far different from just a believer. A believer would be someone who would fight with a huge army or defend his family, a disciple is one of the guys standing in the front line with his shield up ready for battle not caring who or why they are under attack.
The first mark is loving Jesus supremely. We see that we need to love Him above family, friends and all others in order to be a true disciple.
If you truly follow the Lord, you won’t have to look for people to ridicule you and oppose you, they will find you–and they may be your family members. In Matthew 10 Jesus said, “All men will hate you because of me, but he who stands firm to the end will be saved…Anyone who loves his father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves his son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.” (Matthew 10:22,37)
The bottom line is that we must live day to day, minute to minute for the times when we are closest to God. Our quiet times, our worship times both private and corporate must be the drive of all the other times.
when God calls you, you have to make some difficult decisions, and sometimes your family will not jump up and down and rejoice over your choices. That’s the first mark of a true disciple.
So ask yourself, how much am I willing to give up for Christ. In light of the movie 300 are we willing to give up everything and everyone in order to know Him and serve Him?
