So I was preparing all last week for the Lord's Supper at church on Sunday. THe illustration that kept on jumping out at me was the simple picture of sitting down to lunch with your family. There are a few things you do:
1. You wash your hands and clean up. No one wants to eat lunch with someone who isn't clean, you don't want to see them dig into the food on the table or touch things that you are going to eat from. It's the same with the Lord's Supper, Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians that anyone who eats of the bread and drinks of the juice in an unworthy manner is guilty of the blood. In other words, every time we take the Lords supper in an unclean manner, we are throwing our sin on Christ at the Cross all over again.
2. You don't want to sit down to dinner with your family if there is a big fight going on. You sit down and there is friction, the focus is on that instead of eating, and bonding with your family. Likewise, you don't want to take of the Lord's supper with a grudge or anger toward another in the family. Fix your problems, mend your fences before you go to the table.
Yesterday was a great day for us as we shared in the Lords' SUpper together as a family, I hope you will carefully consider these things before you sit down to the Lord's table with your church family.
