voices of the past

So here I was, a 31 year old grown man coaching girls' highschool softball. Everything is going along great, we were running a practice and the girls were all doing what was asked of them. They, were hustling and making the plays that we expected them to make. They were cleaning up and I had just told them to get all the equipment up and then I wanted to talk to them. While I was giving them their instructions I lost my focus and got this weird feeling in my stomach. I had heard a voice, a voice getting on to one of the varsity girls. A very familiar voice that used to get on to me, it was my friend's dad. He had a daughter playing on the varsity, and he has one of those voices that you notice anywhere. Hearing his voice, in a disciplinary way brought back memories and thoughts. He was my friend's dad who I had been around a lot as a teenager and as a young boy. He was also my little league coach for about 7 years.
Do you do that? Do you hear voices from the past and immediately feel that bond or the feelings that you had for that person in the past? For me, he was a disciplinary figure so I got that old childhood feeling of being in trouble. I have a lot of people like that in my life. There are certain family members whose voices I hear and pick out distinctly in any crowd. I am now the same way with my children, and my wife(though she is quite loud, haha) they are voices that I hear and tune in to.
John 10:27 "My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me".
Jesus is referring to us as sheep, and the way that sheep listen to their shepherd. Of all the noises in the wilderness, in any situation, the sheep hear His voice and listen. So ask yourself today, do you recognize God's voice? When you hear His voice do you immediately tune in and listen? I hope so. After all we are His sheep, and He is our Great Shepherd.
Listen for God daily, and when you hear Him stop and listen intently to the things that He is showing you.
