Blessed art thou

Have you ever had your day just torn apart by a negative person. You're rolling along, things are going well, you're happy and then the phone rings or you run into someone at work or school. The next thing you know you're on the wrong end of ranting. Negative, negative, negative is all they have to offer. They can't focus on any positives or anything but the negative.
Well, I'm proud to say that there are people in life who are the opposite. They focus soley on the positives and throw away the negatives. Look out when these two get together, they end up driving each other completely crazy. The optimist sees everything for its potential, the pessimist sees everything for what could go wrong.
Well, whether you are an optimist or pessimist you need to be encouraged from time to time. This Sunday we are in the first chapter of Philippians and talking about how Paul encouraged people by the way he reacted to being locked up. But, I want to look at a group of verses today that go along with encouragement.
In the first chapter of Luke, we find that Mary goes to visit Elizabeth. They are both a little run down for virtually the same reason. Yet, when they get together jus the right thing is said and they both walk away encouraged. That is what ministry is all about. Finding the people who pick you up when you need it and making sure you pick people up when they need it.
A simple "blessed is she who believed that what the Lord has said to her will be accomplished" took Mary from depression to singing with joy!
So I ask you, what can you say to someone today that will help them reach their inner joy?
What did you do yesterday to help someone reach their inner joy? We know from Paul's writings that Joy is constant, but sometimes we do let it get buried underneath a lot. So dig out your joy, see what you can do to help others dig theirs out today as well.
Thanks for reading and don't forget sunday school at 9:30, worship at 11:00 at Freedom Baptist this Sunday!
