COnfessions of a pastor

So there is so much in the world that is justified and taken so wrongly. I know there are a lot of people out there that teach young people that if they work hard they will achieve all that they want to, this is a good motto but it teaches a little bit of broken systems. I worked hard all my life, I have worked 2 or more jobs at a time for over 17 years. I don't feel entitled but I do carry with me at times a bit of an attitude that says "I've worked hard I deserve this."
Well, truth is just because you deserve something doesn't make it yours. I can honestly say that I worked my days off and spare time to get my family some of the things that we now have. I felt like we deserved the new car I bought my wife in 2007. After all I was working every moment I had, Tara was working two jobs and I had driven a truck that almost blew up on a youth trip for over 3 years. THe truck honestly sounded like it was going to die at every traffic light. People told me to go buy that new car as soon as we could afford it because we deserved it. Entitlement is a tough thing to deal with sometimes. We get it from all different directions, teh world throws it at us at work, at play, at home all over the place. And we accept it, we like it because it tells us we deserve something for all that we have either done or endured. That isn't exactly right because there is one major story in the Gospel, actually it is the Gospel. JEsus deserved to live a plush life, to sit back and relax and sip drinks on the beach. Jesus deserved to be treated as royalty and not as a common man. He deserved all this if He was going to die for my sins and yours. To top it all off, He certainly didn't deserve to die, not for me He didn't.
And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to death-even death on a cross!" - Philippians 2:8
Paul says entitlement is nothing because Jesus himself did not think He was entitled to anything. And if God's own Son who was with Him at creation, who lived in Heaven for thousands of years, came to earth to be born in a stable mocked and made fun of, beaten severely and hung on a cross wasn't entitled to anything, then guess what I know I'm not and you aren't either.
