There are so many books and seminars out there on how to gain knowledge. There are courses in college and books and online resources gallore on become a wise person. All of that is fine and good but reading, listening and recieving the imformation is only the first step. It is the crawling before you walk if you will. You can read every book you get your hands on, you can listen to every speaker you can find, you can go to every seminar ever offered on a particular subject but until you learn to process and use the imformation it is useless.
I kind of look at it as a card catalog in a school library. You could walk into a library when I was younger and find a shelf full of drawers. Little narrow drawers with letters on the outside ( like A-D) marking them accordingly. You would rarely see anyone except for the librarian over there using the card catalogs. Inside them were lots of index cards with book information on them and put in order by author's name. If you knew the author's name of a book you could go over look it up and figure out the exact number of the book in the library and save yourself a lot of browsing. But rarely did anyone use them, they just walked aimlessly around the library lap after lap looking for a book that seemed like a needle in a hay stack.
We take in a lot of knowledge and a lot of information but rarely do we put it into practice. I love to talk to athletes and see all the camps they go to in hopes of becoming better, but they come back exactly the same. They learn all the things they need to and then don't apply any of them. As a coach this is frustrating, and as a Pastor it is equally frustrating. I don't even want to imagine how frustrating it must be for God. To see His creation in Sunday services every week, in Bible studies and spending quiet time in devotionals only to apply very little of it to their lives.
But everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand." - Matthew 7:26
So what are you building on? I hope you're not building on sand. I certainly hope you aren't walking around life aimlessly like that student looking for a book in the library. Tap into the knowledge and the database that God has given you, take what you learn from your Pastor, Youth Pastor and teachers at church and apply it. Until you apply it there is no foundation at all, recieving knowledge is important, but applying it to your life and your lifestyle is far more important.
Thanks for reading and have a great Tuesday!
