Do you ever really think about your life? We way things out and justify things in a human like manner because we can only see what is on this side of heaven. We see what has happened, what is happening but we have no clue about the future, we think we do but we really don't. I like to look at it this way:
If you had lived in the days of the early church and you were born in 1 AD and you lived to be 90, that would mean that you passed away in 91 AD. And by my Math(yes a graduate of St. Augustine High, haha) this is the year 2010. That would mean that you spent 90 years here on earth and right now you would have spent 1,919 years in eternity. If you were a Christian you would have spent 1,919 years in heaven as opposed to just 90 on earth. So, I hope that offers some perspective for you .
"Man is like a breath; his days are like a fleeting shadow." - Psalm 144:4
It's interesting how we think we do so much, and we are so important and we offer the world so much when in reality our greatest contributions are almost nothing in the greater scheme of things.
I liken it to filling my fish tank up. We have a 100 gallon fish tank in our living room that is the most awesome thing in the world. I love it and I like to watch my fish but every now and then when I had the koi in there the water would get a little messy and I would have to change some of it out. When I did this I would mix about 5 gallons of water with the water conditioner and let it sit overnight. Then in the morning I would dump it into the aquarium, this would take weeks to get it back to the level I like the water to be at. Each night I would get that 5 gallons ready and in teh morning dump it in knowing I still had to do it several more times. We think each morning we get up and make a huge difference in the world in reality we don't even compare to my 5 gallons of water in the aquarium. Our contributions on our greatest day are more like a glass of water in the ocean. That's right we make little dent in the world and we need to stop thinking we are so important and start living for Christ, that's what is important!
Thanks for reading and happy hump day!
