pet peeves

Through my life I have developed very few pet peeves, you know those things that make you want to plug your ears or run away as fast as you can when they are happening. One of my pet peeves is people who talk to teenagers like they are 5 years old, this is annoying and they deserve to be talked to differently. Second, I get frustrated when people jump in conversations that they aren't involved in. There you are talking to someone about something and some walks by and says, "What", what are you talking about. THis too is frustrating and unfortunately I have recently worked closely with people who do both of these things regularly.
But, if you had to know what my number one pet peeve is it would have to be swearing. Not talking about cussing or using bad language(I can't stand that either and it would be top 5), but saying I swear after a statement. It's so frustrating to have someone tell you something and then expect you not to believe them, so they immediately go into defense mode by saying, "I swear, or I promise", and on occasion "you wanna bet?" Jesus addressed this pet peeve as if it was one of His own. He told them how to handle letting truth out and speaking about things.
"And do not swear by your head, for you cannot make even one hair white or black. Simply let your 'Yes' be 'Yes,' and your 'No,' 'No'; anything beyond this comes from the evil one." Matthew 5:36-37
He says we should keep it simple in that when we say something just leave it at that. There is no need to swear or make promises or defend yourself if you are telling the truth. You simply say what you need to say and because you know for a fact that it is the truth you will have no reason to say anything further. Jesus also knew that people that lie regularly need to defend themselves, so when you swear by something you are putting yourself on the same level with liars.
Yes I did see that, or guess what I saw, saw ....... the end. No need for defensive speech or swearing, just tell the truth and be done with it!
THanks for reading and have a great day!
