Tonight I am starting a series with our youth on things that zap your passion. The series will last us about a month and will include 7 different passion zappers. I found all kinds of Biblical principles that when not followed or when broken can completely take away all of our passion for something. I for one am a pretty passionate person, the things that I endeavor to do are things that I pour my heart and soul into.
First, I am extremely passionate about God's ministry in my life. I pour everything I have into reaching this community for Christ. I do my best to be able to lay my head on my pillow each and every night knowing I did everything I could to take advantage of every opportunity that day. Second, I am very passionate about my family. I spend as much time as I can with my girls, true we do a lot of things all over our community but we do them together. My family is my #1 ministry and without them I would be nothing. THird, I am quite passionate about the sports that I participate in. True I read a couple books a week, usually one that betters me as a pastor or as a believer and another that betters me as a softball coach. I am very passionate about my racing too, it can completely ruin a Saturday if things don't go my way(this has been a regular Saturday occurence for me this season, haha).
In all that I have looked at, all that I have studied the number one passion zapper is unconfessed sin. This is a thing that hangs over our heads and completely takes us down.
Look at David in Psalm 38:4-6 "My guilt has overwhelmed me like a burden too heavy to bear.My wounds fester and are loathsome because of my sinful folly.I am bowed down and brought very low; all day long I go about mourning"
This entire chapter is actually about this very thing, David is talking about God's wrath and the things that he is struggling with, but it all boils down to guilt.
I want to share a funny thing about our bodies just quickly. We are emotion driven, we can feel any number of emotions and physical things at the same time. But, there are two things that we can NEVER feel at the same time. You will never be able to feel enthusiasm(which is the fuel of passion) and guilt. These two things cannot be present at the same time. So if you are feeling less passion in an area, think about the sins in your life, are you openly repenting of them?
Thanks for reading and have a great Hump day!
